Nesca Revision History
Though I am pleased with the final cut of Nescaflowné, I am not so fond of the almost five years it took to get there. I hope as we embark on new projects that this list of all the revisions Nesca went through will serve as a reminder that perfection is the enemy of progress. Or as a reminder of the importance of getting it right the first time.
A version is defined as something that was screened in public.
1.0: debuted FanimeCon 2003, runtime 60:01(?)
Only one copy (VHS) was ever made of this version, which we no longer possess.
1.1: debuted Otakon 2003, runtime 60:01(?)
This version fixed many visual glitches in 1.0, mostly interlaced frames I forgot to remove during lip-sync.
1.2: debuted ?, runtime 60:01(?)
Same as 1.1, but a correction was made to the end credits.
1.3: debuted Otakon 2004, runtime 59:46
1st DVD version. The entire soundtrack was scrubbed line for line to remove hiss and other flaws as best as possible. Somewhere between 1.1 and 1.3, about 15 seconds are trimmed for better pacing. All VHS copies sent to conventions were of version 1.3.
1.4: debuted Anime Central 2005, runtime 59:02(?)
Somewhere between 1.4 and 1.5, around 45 seconds more are removed. 1.4 was only screened once due to a major sound error in a recut scene. Around 30 seconds during the arrival at Atlanta was missing all audio.
1.5: debuted FanimeCon 2005, runtime 59:02
1.5 restored the missing Atlanta dialogue but in reconstructing the audio, the ”helium” effect was reapplied improperly, resulting in a bizarre character to some dialogue. Obviously, this version was also screened one time only.
1.6: debuted FanimeCon 2006, runtime 58:40
1.6 fixed 1.5’s audio problem and also removed over 20 seconds more footage.
1.7: debuted Anime Central 2007, runtime 59:51
Approximately two minutes and fifteen seconds of new footage added. Around 65 more seconds of existing footage is removed. End credits revised to reflect new footage/music. First version to get DVD menus.
1.8: debuted ?, runtime 59:51
More video glitches corrected. Timing of ”pussy” gag altered (by 1/2 second!). Sound corrected for “Rocky Horror” scene. End credits revised to include Sokodei web site’s new domain name.
1.9: debuted ?, runtime 59:51
One last interlaced frame glitch removed.
